Congratulations to Johnny Roland for being named to the Southeastern Conference 2012 Football Legends Class, an annual list of 14 former college football superstars.
Roland, who played from 1962 to 1965, is one of the top two way players in Mizzou history. He began his playing days as a running back under Coach Devine. He then switched to defensive back as a junior, winning All-American honors in 1965, when he had six interceptions.
He was a three time All-Big Eight selection, once as a running back and twice as a defensive back. The multi-faceted Roland also returned punts and kickoffs.
After his Tiger playing days, Johnny went on to have a successful eight year career in the NFL, winning Rookie of the Year in 1966, with the St. Louis Cardinals.
