Missouri State Bear's Head Coach Paul Lusk was the featured speaker at the 2011 Basketball Tip Off Luncheon presented by CoxHealth.  The Wednesday, November 2nd luncheon was held at the University Plaza convention Center in Springfield.

At the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame  named the second class of Filbert Five honorees.  This years the focus was on siblings who had an impact on the state's basketball landscape.

The Filbert Five, the Hall of Fame’s tribute to Missouri’s “Mr. Basketball” Gary Filbert, was created in 2010. Filbert had long been known throughout the state as an outstanding high school and college player, an assistant under Mizzou’s Norm Stewart, the first head coach of Missouri Western’s basketball team, the Executive Director of the Show Me Games and most recently, the Executive Secretary of the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association passed away earlier this year.

This year’s Filbert Five selections are Springfield’s Shane and Spencer Laurie; the Howard sisters of Marshfield,  Melody Elliott, Julie Templeton and Lori Roy, from Bolivar, the DeGraffenreid brothers, Kelly, Ron, Terry, Jerry, Rick and Randy; Bradleyville’s  Roy, Lonnie and Steve Combs; and from Sedalia, Kim and Kathy Anderson.

As an added bonus, the Hall inducted longtime Ozarks basketball legends Forrest Arnold,  Hilly Beck, and Kirk Hanson.

Forest Arnold was the first All-American basketball player for the University of Memphis and one of three players who scored at least 1000 points and 1000 rebounds in basketball. He was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks (now  Atlanta Hawks) to play professional basketball, but he chose, instead, to enter the ministry. He was the first full-time basketball coach for Evangel University, and established the athletic program at Central Bible College, coaching basketball there for 42 years.

Hilly Beck served as Baptist Bible College's head basketball coach from 1987-2002 and finished with a record of 271-204. During his coaching career he was named Regional and Conference Coach of the Year. He became Athletic Director during his tenure and retired from coaching in 2002 and retired from Baptist Bible College in 2005.

Kirk Hanson has recorded 713 wins as the head coach of Central Bible College in Springfield, which ranks him as #2 in wins in the NCCAA.  His eams have mande 31 NCAA National Tournament apprearances wiing the National Championship three times.  He has twice been named NCCAA Coach of the Year.
